ITC Grand Maratha Sheraton | Mumbai

The architecture of ITC Grand Maratha Sheraton honours the soul of Mumbai with traditional architecture that speaks eloquently of the history of this great city. It is located in a rapidly developing district near the international airport. It is a collaborativedesign between RTKL Associates and Architect Hafeez Contractor. The 5-storey high structure has 386 elegantly designed guest rooms including exquisitesuites with handcrafted furnishings. There are three types of guest rooms each with distinct schemes. Tower rooms are on the first 3 floors with separate lounge areas dedicated to individual guests. Grand rooms are on the 4th floor and luxury rooms on the 5th level. These two floors also have their own private lounge, fine dining, meeting areas and business facilities. All the guest corridors overlook the atrium. In order to establish a sense of visual privacy to the guests, balconies overlooking the atrium have decorative fretwork and shutter treatment allowing a view over the atrium. The atrium is the central feature around which the public areas revolve.

The reception lobby, two Indian restaurants, a Lebanese restaurant, a Pan-Asian restaurant, bar, conservatory tea lounge, coffee shop, banquet hall, prefunction, meeting rooms, business centre, retail arcade and an opulent health club encompasses the atrium. As there is no discernible sign of the atrium from the exterior, it is quite a revelation in the interior experience. The ceiling in the reception was deliberately kept as low as possible to maximise the dramatic change in volume on entering the atrium. The reception has a quaint charm and sets the tone for the entire vocabulary of the hotel. The hotel's four restaurants again speak the classical language. The 24-hour café set in the zesty white atrium and Peshwa Pavilion is especially stunning. They overlook the haveli style corridor windows and have a traditional Indian feel. The ballrooms can accommodate about 450 guests in a theatre style seating arrangement. The hall is divisible into three separate function rooms, each with their own exclusive pre-function area.Francesca Basu Designs worked out the interiordesign programme. The interior schemes again venerate the history of Bombay featuringelements from its past including British, Maratha, Gujarat, and Parsee cultures.
