DLF Plaza Tower | Gurgaon

DLF Ltd Plaza Tower, the 12-storey building located in the DLF Ltd City offers panoramic views of the golf course. The design had two primary functional objectives – it had to propagate asense of exclusivity by providing recreational facilities to the office goers and had to encourage the 'walk to work' culture. The first intent is addressed by an exclusive club and leisure centre, zoned within the pyramidal form, while the second criterion happened simply due to the fact that the tower's location in the township had housing colonies in the vicinity and encouraged the walk to work concept.

The architecture blends classical elegance with contemporary materials. The design has a strong sense of symmetry and number of stylised art deco elements,which affirm the classical aura. The concave entrance facade draws the visitor through the glass doors into a double-height square atrium. The rectilinear tower rises up from the concave base with two bastions at the corners, and is topped by a pyramid that acts as a skylight to the lobby atrium. The pyramid motif of the lobby atrium is echoed in the roof of the tower. The built mass of the tower has stepped corner terraces in the higher levels, which create a tapering effect. The building with its polished stone surfaces, reflective glass and plated finishes also epitomizes an urbane and global corporate imagery. In its plan and form, Plaza Tower spreads evenly over its largely square site. The 11floors of office space are complimented by adequate services and parking accommodated within the upper and lower basements. Two service cores, one placed near the atrium and the other at the rear of the building, facilitate verticalcirculation. The entrance and exit to the basement is provided by two wide ramps, placed symmetrically at the rear of the building. A sculptural water body at the entrance accentuates the tapering frontageof the site.
